What pest control SEO is (and what it isn't)
Pest control SEO is the work of getting a pest control company into Google Maps and search results when people nearby have a problem: for «pest control near me», for each pest, from termites to bed bugs, and in each city and suburb your technicians drive to. We measure it in calls and signed plans. Rankings are how we get there.
Three things it is not:
- Buying leads. A bought lead is often sold to several companies at once, and the fastest reply wins. You pay either way.
- Local Services Ads. LSA is advertising with a Google badge. It stops when the budget stops. SEO and LSA share one foundation — your reviews and your profile — but they are different channels.
- A thousand backlinks. For a local company, a few dozen links from suppliers, local associations and press do more than any bulk package, and carry no risk.
The mechanics are the same as local SEO for service businesses: Google Business Profile, pages, listings, reviews. Local SEO for pest control differs in three places: every pest is its own market, demand follows the season, and a customer on a recurring plan is worth far more than one job. The sections below cover each.
Why pest control SEO works differently
Six things that make pest control SEO different from SEO for other local businesses, with the numbers behind them.
Every pest is its own search
"Cockroach exterminator" gets 165,000 searches a month in the US, "bed bug exterminator" 135,000, "termite control" 90,500 and "wasp nest removal" 40,500. Each has its own customers, its own ad price and its own competitors. A single Services page listing all of them ranks for none. Each pest you treat needs a page: how you treat it, what it costs, how long it takes and what the guarantee covers. Each pest has its own season
Overall demand is steady, but searches for "termite control" peak in May at four times the August level, searches for a mice exterminator are highest from October to January, and wasp searches drop fivefold in winter. A new page needs two to three months to reach its position. Pages published at the peak arrive after it, so we build each one two to three months ahead.National brands are weaker on the map
Orkin, Terminix, Aptive and Rentokil are the names people know, and they search for them: "aptive pest control" gets 60,500 searches a month. On the map the picture changes. In our check of 20 cities they held 6 of 60 top-3 spots. Your real competitors on Maps are other local and regional companies, and they can be outranked.Reviews set the bar, they do not decide alone
Companies in the Maps top 3 have a median of 1,070 Google reviews, twice as many as those in positions 4-8. Yet in 18 of 20 cities, a company with more reviews sat below the top 3. In Austin, one with 6,964 reviews was sixth and one with 90 was second. You need a steady flow of new reviews that mention the pest and the town, plus a strong profile.A recurring plan changes the math
Most of your revenue comes from quarterly or monthly plans, so a new customer is worth years of visits, not one job. That is why clicks on "pest control near me" sell for $10-47. Compare what a customer from search costs with what one plan earns over its lifetime. Our SEO ROI calculator does the math with your own numbers.Residential and commercial are different searches
"Commercial pest control" is the most expensive click in the niche, up to $110. Restaurants, warehouses and property managers search differently from homeowners: they look for inspection reports, compliance with health codes and service contracts. If you take commercial accounts, they need their own pages, separate from residential.
What your customers are searching for
Monthly searches in the United States. The price in brackets is what businesses pay Google Ads for one click on that search - traffic an organic ranking brings in without a per-click charge. Most of the demand sits in specific pests, not in the words "pest control".

What's included
Google Business Profile setup and optimization
Primary and secondary categories, services for each pest, service area, hours and photos of your trucks and technicians. Every profile in the top 3 has the same primary category, so the rest of the profile is where you win.
A page for every pest you treat
Termites, bed bugs, rodents, roaches, mosquitoes: a page for each with how you treat it, what it costs, how long it takes and what the guarantee covers. Published before the season, not during it.
City and service-area pages
A landing page for every office's Google profile and for the suburbs you want work from. In our 20-city check, 30 of 59 top-3 companies send Maps visitors to a city page, not the homepage.
Citations and listings, audited and cleaned
Name, address and phone made consistent across Yelp, Angi, the BBB, Apple Maps, Bing and industry directories. Duplicates removed, old addresses from moves and acquisitions fixed.
Review requests after every visit
A text with a direct review link after each service visit, plus one line for the technician to say at the door. Reviews that mention the pest and the town help you rank for both.
Technical SEO and site speed
A site that loads fast on a phone, a call button on every screen, clean indexing and LocalBusiness schema. Fixed in the code, not handed over as a report.
SEO vs Google Ads vs Local Services Ads for pest control
Most pest control companies already pay for Google Ads, Local Services Ads or bought leads. Each one works. They differ in what you pay for, how fast it starts and what you keep when the money stops:
| SEO | Google Ads | Local Services Ads | Bought leads | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | A fixed monthly fee for the work | Every click: $10-47 on «pest control near me» | Every lead | Every lead, often sold to several companies |
| How fast it starts | 3-6 months to noticeable growth | Same day | After Google verifies the business | Same day |
| When you stop paying | Pages and rankings stay | Calls stop that day | Calls stop that day | Calls stop that day |
| What you keep | Pages, reviews, Maps position | Campaign data | Reviews in the LSA profile | Nothing |
Where each one fits
Pest control advertising on Google is the fastest way to add calls, and it tells you within weeks which pests and zip codes turn into signed plans. The price does not come down with time. A click on «commercial pest control» runs up to $110, and the next one costs the same. If you need calls before the pages rank, we run Google Ads management next to SEO and shift the budget as organic calls grow.
Local Services Ads put your name above the regular ads with a Google badge, and you pay per lead instead of per click. They are worth keeping for most companies. They also depend on your reviews and your Google Business Profile, which is SEO work you need anyway.
Pest control SEO costs the same in month twelve as in month one, while the number of calls it brings keeps growing. That is why the cost per customer falls, and why a customer on a quarterly plan found through search is the cheapest one you will sign.
When to start: plan around the season
Total demand for pest control is steady all year. Demand for each pest is not. Monthly US searches, September 2025 — August 2026:
| Search | Peak | Low |
|---|---|---|
| termite control | May: 201,000 | August: 49,500 |
| wasp nest removal | May-September: up to 60,500 | January: 12,100 |
| flea exterminator | September: 33,100 | February: 3,600 |
| mice exterminator near me | October-January: 22,200 | July-August: 9,900 |
A new page usually needs two to three months to settle into its position. A termite page published in April reaches its position after the May peak. We plan pages two to three months before each peak: rodents by August, termites by January.
How we collected the Maps numbers
On September 29, 2026 we searched «pest control» in Google Maps from the center of 20 US cities: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, Jacksonville, Austin, Charlotte, Columbus, Indianapolis, Seattle, Denver, Nashville, Atlanta, Miami and Las Vegas. We recorded the first 6-8 results in each city without sponsored listings, 143 in total, and checked the websites of the 60 companies in the top 3. One search point per city is a snapshot, not a full map: a customer across town sees a different top 3. More about TwoX Digital.

How it works and how long it takes
Pest control SEO shows first movement in 6-10 weeks and noticeable growth in 3-6 months. Pest and city pages rank first; the city-wide «pest control» search takes longest. These timelines come from our local SEO work for home-service companies. For a Chicago handyman company, organic clicks went from 31 in February 2026 to 192 in August.
The order of pages depends on when you start. Starting in October means rodent pages first and termite pages ready by January. Starting in March means stinging insects and mosquitoes first.
Audit (weeks 1-2)
We check your Google Business Profile, website, listings and reviews, and map who holds the top 3 for "pest control" and your three main pests across your service area. You get a short list of fixes in priority order and a page plan built around the coming season.
Foundation (month 1)
Profile rebuilt, listings made consistent, duplicates removed, review requests set up after every visit, and technical problems on the site fixed: speed, indexing, the call button, schema. Nothing on this list is visible to customers, and every page we add later ranks faster because of it.
Pest and city pages (months 2-4)
Pages for the pests with the nearest season and the most demand in your area, then pages for the cities and suburbs you cover. Each has your treatment, price range, guarantee and photos from real jobs. This is where calls from search start to grow.
Reviews and authority (ongoing)
Seasonal posts on your profile, a reply to every review, links from suppliers, local associations and press, and a monthly report built on calls, form leads and Maps rankings across your area.
